Freeman Churchill, Certified Pedorthist (Canada), is the founder and President of Orthotics East Ltd. A graduate of Acadia University (1975) from Recreation, and Dalhousie (1981) in Physical Education. Freeman began his pedorthic work history in 1980. As an athlete, he ran and coached distance running at a national level, and has completed 10 marathons. It was while training for the 1981 Boston Marathon he realized his own biomechanical needs for orthotics and how it would be helpful to others with similar needs. In 1983 he began working with the Nova Scotia Sport Medicine Clinic with a variety of Sport Medicine Physicians, helping in orthotic fitting and fabrication, and designing fitness and training programs. He was the first private Certified Pedorthist (C) in Nova Scotia and has been teaching and training in pedorthics since 1985. Freeman has served as a director and president for the Pedorthic Association of Canada. He serves on the examination body for the College of Pedorthics Canada.

Elaine Churchill, is an Occupational Therapist from Queens University (1985). She works in the lab in fabrication, cast preparation, and is vice president in administration.


Sheldon Gardner, obtained his Bachelor of Physical Education from UNB in 1995. In 1996 he began his pedorthic career in Vancouver, BC., where he obtained his Certified Pedorthic Technician and Certified Pedorthist (Canada) designation. Sheldon returned to Nova Scotia in October, 2001 to continue his pedorthic career at Orthotics East Ltd.


Marion Mazerall, is our lab manager. She manufactures orthotics and performs orthopedic modification on footwear. Marion is also in charge of the inventory, ordering supplies, and serves in quality control.


Kay Aucoin, is the office administrator, and has served with Orthotics East for 12 years. Kay oversees front office operations, reception and book keeping. Her friendly voice is the first line for appointments and information when you phone.
